Key considerations for directional control valve selection:
1. Port Size Selection: Based on actuator flow rate at operating pressure. Manufacturers may specify flow as Free Air (ANR) or at pressure (e.g., 0.5 MPa). Valve thread size ≠ port size. Select valve flow capacity slightly above system demand. For pilot/signal valves: use 3mm port for distances ≤20m or few valves; 6mm for >20m or multiple valves.
2. Function & Control Method: Match positions, ports, memory function, and rest state to system needs. Substitute if necessary (e.g., block unused ports on a 5/2 valve to mimic 3/2)—though not ideal for new designs.
3. Operating Conditions: Ensure compatibility with system pressure, power supply (AC/DC, voltage), fluid temperature, and ambient conditions.
4. Performance Requirements: Consider minimum operating/control pressure, response time, leakage rate, life cycle, and reliability. For high-seal applications (e.g., inert gas systems), choose spool-type valves to prevent cross-port leakage during shifting.
5. Mounting Style: Prefer subplate mounting (e.g., ISO 5599-1) for centralized systems—eases maintenance and integration. Tubular mounting saves space and is viable with modern high-reliability components.
